This will be my last blog of the year. I hope you have enjoyed keeping up with some of the activities in room 2-2 through this blog. I have really enjoyed this year and have mixed emotions as it comes to a close. As you may have heard, I am retiring from teaching after this school year. This class will hold a special place in my career as my last one! Thanks for your support this year and have a great summer! RDroll

The students have been busy with the musical Arf and our own Pioneer Day activities. The kids enjoyed square dancing, eating corn bread with homemade butter, and watching Little House on the Prairie last Thursday. We also read some pioneer story books and learned about the journey west in a covered wagon. Our present units of study are the water cycle and soils.

I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break. I'm sure the weather helped make it more fun to be involved in family activities. When we return, we will be finishing up our Pioneer unit in Social Studies and will hold our annual Pioneer Day on April 8th. I am also planning for the Economic Unit that will culminate with an Economics Fair. Look for more details on that later.
In Science we have one unit left from our kits, which is the one on soils. The kids do experiments on different kinds of soils. We also have a unit on the Water Cycle and magnets that I'll fit in before the end of the year.
In math we start the push for mastering the adding and subtracting algorithm. I'll use base 10 blocks to help the kids understand what to do when the ones you're adding are more than 10, and also what to do when there aren't enough ones to subtract properly.
We will continue to work on reading skills and read some fun stories and poems about different families in our basil.
I'm also going to spend more time teaching skills the kids can use in story writing. I'll post some more pictures of the activities we will be involved in.
Thanks to all who were able to attend parent~teacher conferences. It's always good to update you on your child's progress in my classroom!

We have started some new units and the kids are enjoying the Science one especially. We are working with making things balance and learning about balance points, counter weights, and stability. We will be learning about spinning and rolling objects soon.
